| Yesterday a man tried to compare the LDS church rejecting black people into their priesthood until 1978 with Abraham taking his son to the alter. Just silly. When their President and Prophet was asked why, all he said was "I don't know." If a prophet doesn't know why a church is racist then I don't want to join. Here is my response to that statement. I will gladly compare that to Pres. Hinkleys response. First, did you know that what Abraham was about to do was fairly common in those days. There is a false God mentioned in the old testament a number of times that peopel used to sacrifice their kids to on top of an altar. In fact, you can find many commands that say don't offer your kids, that's bad! So, the God of Abraham asks him to do what is common and abraham starts to. But BEFORE he can do it God stops him, in essence he is saying, I am not like those other Gods. God never allows him to commit the act.
Now let us compare that to this subject. In the time of Jospeh SMith racism was okay. Some people were seen less that others. It would not have been socially wrong to call someone "cursed" because of their skin. Does God STOP them before they allow this "curse" to take place? No. Do they allow the "curse" to be a part of their doctrine long after the rest of the world has realized that all men are created equal? No. Does God show up and stop abraham before the damage is done? YES Does God shhow up and correct the LDS leaders before the damage is done? NO! Does Abraham learn more about the character of God because of this event? What do LDS memebers learn about their God because of this....they don't know.
Why exactly did the LDS church change their mind about black people? Did God change his mind? Was the cursed somehow removed? Do you answers to ANY of these questions?
Just so you know he responded with a long justification about why they always liked black people are so happy they are allowed back into the priesthood. BLeah! I'm glad my God is not racist.
| In prep for an upcoming sermon I came across a weird website that was for the catholic statue called "our lady of lebanon" On this site you could plant a trip to see the statue and ask for a miracle or pay homage to the saint. They gave a history of how the statue came to be and I just had to read it. When they came to the part that discussed how the land for the statue was found this is what they said... One day while driving along Lipkey Road in Jackson Township, Father Eid noticed a sign, "Property for Sale 80 Acres". "That's it", he said. He was impressed by the long frontage, the evergreens of the State Forest, the Meander Reservoir (close to the property), the turnpike gate and the nearby Holiday Inn. The Holiday Inn thing just cracked me up. Forgive me if I don't plan my pilgrimage anytime soon.

| Ok, so I'm going here on saturday
To Build on of these....
On this spot.... . I've been praying and looking forward to this since the pastor told me last year about his desire to take the word deeper into jungle. Gonna be great!
| So, I guess that this xanga is taking the place of my old blog which was titled, "How to shoot at someone who outdrew you." I found a link to my xanga on my friend Jimm'y blog which can be found here.... www.jkdoyle.com I guess it is true what my father says about me. I need a mission trip every year to re charge my batteries. This is the time of the year when I am empty and drained. The Bible isn't much fun to read, sermons don't say anything new, I am agreeing with the philosopher who said, "hell, is other people" and a whole lists of other complaints that are without validity but real none the less. | | |
| I haven't been on here and everything changed so it took me ten minutes to figure out how to post a blog. HIghway Patrol keep picking on me because they think I am the guy on the blue bike who does 150 on the turnpike everyday. Apparently they can't catch him and if anyone sees him they are supposed to just pull him over. I have a blue bike but I'm not their guy, I'm not that dumb. But, they pull me over anyways and give me tickets for not being able to see my license plate. I'm going to argue my case in court though. They got the wrong guy! | | |
